2007 SWAMBC steering

At the SWAMBC AGM it was decided that the fourth round of next years 2007 scale steering is to be held by the Newquay club at Silver mine lake, Crealy park Cornwall on the 21nd of July. The skippers meeting is at 10:30am entry costs £2 (this is to cover the cost of prizes) and is open to people with membership to a club associated with SWAMBC. Spectators are welcome to come along free of charge. This will be the third round we have organised and I think we should have a good turn out for this event and hope that we can attract some members of local clubs, who maybe have not tried it before. The main objective is to have fun, so come and have a go . If you are interested in this or anything else on the website send me an Email or call and ask for Phil, contact details are on the join the club page.

2006 SWAMBC steering

This year due to time restraints, work commitments and the ever increasing cost of fuel, the club members were not able to make every round. So we appear to only have pictures from the round that we hosted.

2005 SWAMBC Scale Steering

Round one

At the first round hosted by Torbay MBC, Margaret and Phil turned up on a cold and murky April morning with their boats. Now when you consider that this is the first time that they had tried scale steering, then a good result is when Phil came first in the large category, beating the reigning champion Mike Knight (the scene has now been set for a serious head to head,, Oh dear what have we done!).

Margaret did not fair so well with her very light cruiser, as the wind picked up and blew her about all over the place, plus having a bad day in general doesn't help, she finished in 7th place.

Round two

At round two the weather was much improved and with Margaret, Phil and Jamie Poulter taking part, Newquay club was well represented.

The day went well, Margaret decided to give up with the medium class and go for large with her new tug named Bath toy. Phil came third in the Large class much to  Shepton Mallets, Mike Knights relief who came in first (the battle is on). Margaret came a respectable 4th in the same class and Jamie who was trying his hand for the first time, came in an excellent 2nd place in the pilot class.

Round three

Round three took place in Exeter's Crealy park, after the venue was changed from Vivary park in Taunton, Hosted by Tone valley MBC because their pond developed a leak. It seems that fortune has changed with the weather after the last two tug towing events, as we arrived to blue skies and only a gentle breeze.

Pete Thatcher decided to join in this time with an Excellent third place in the large class (his very first attempt at scale steering). Margaret in her own words just could not get it together and limped into last place in the large (can't win them all) Jamie came in third in the pilot class. and Phil came in second place in the large class, beaten once again by one Michael Knight (no he does not have a car called Kitt!!)

 Round Four

The next round was held at Shepton Mallets Apex park lake on the 7th of August. Fantastic weather hot and sunny all day which kept everyone smiling (I suppose they could have been just squinting). the course was a well laid out one with a few interesting obstacles, a credit to Mike Knight's imagination and course designing. Pete Thatcher came third in the large class with only a couple of points separating him and Mike Knight in second, with yours truly pipping Mike at the post for first place. Margaret despite her efforts only managed a fifth in the same class.

Round Five

This is the final round which was held at Exeters Crealy park. It was a nice day, a little overcast with no wind (perfect conditions for scale steering). As usual Dave Aylott excelled himself with another fine well laid out course.

Jamie Poulter who was taking part in the pilot class finished in 3rd place on the day. Pete Thatcher won in third place on the day in the large class once again (he said "at least i'm consistent"). Phil Winnett after a bitter fought battle was beaten into second place on the day by just one point by Mike Knight from Shepton Mallett.

Final results

This now means after all the results are in the final results are:- In large class Phil finished in 2nd place, Margaret in 4th and Pete finished in 5th after only 3 rounds.

A very happy Jamie finished in 2nd place in the Pilot class.
